Why Asuna?
Yuuki Asuna, known as Asuna in Sword Art Online (SAO) is the main heroine of the Sword Art Online series, She is the daughter of the former CEO of RECT Inc. Asuna was one of the 10,000 players trapped in Sword Art Online, where she was the sub-leader of the Knights of the Blood guild. Her skills with the rapier had her earned her the nickname The Flash.
As someone who studied fencing for most of her college career, I found great joy is seeing Asuna be held with such high regard within the SAO world. My boyfriend showed me SAO and we ended up making this pair of costumes as a fun couple cosplay. It was so fun since while we both sew and cosplay, we don't usually cosplay together. It was definitely fun time.

How It Was Made
Asuna was definitely a fun build. She is comprised of a variety of fabrics. For the coat and skirting, I used a white satin that I had on hand. The leggings and sleeves were a white spandex with some white pleather for the accent pieces/garters. The skirt was a bottomweight twill.
For her armor, I took some EVA foam and covered in a stretch white vinyl. It was secured in the back using velcro. This took a few tries as armor is not one of my specialties, but I was very happy with the end result.
Everything here was custom patterned by me. I made a few mock-ups before I could get the coat to sit correctly.
Sword was custom built by my boyfriend.
