The General and The Jedi
Kanan and Hera from Star Wars Rebels
Why Kanan and Hera?
Star Wars Rebels is one of the most underrated pieces of Star Wars media. It's storytelling and characters were some of the more interesting ones. Kanan and Hera are by far the most healthy and loving relationship of all the couples in the Star Wars universe. They care for each other so deeply, like to see each other succeed, and will fight to protect each other and their found family.
For our trip to Galaxy's Edge, my boyfriend and I decided to go with these two as they are our favorite characters. Rebels needs more love and not a lot of people Disney Bound as them.
How It Was Made
I started by drawing up a sketch of these two. The idea was try to figure out what Kanan and Hera would wear on their vacation trip to Batuu. (Ya know, a fun weekend away from the kids.) Everything needed to be lightweight for Florida temperatures while giving off the vibe of their actual outfits.
For Kanan, we opted to go with his second look from seasons 3 & 4. Simple t-shirt and a dress shirt that would mimic the look of the short. His armor design was added to the sleeve using a Cameo vinyl cutter. Along with the triangle and 'Specter-1" design.
Simple cargo shorts with a hiking boot for comfort while walking around the parks were a must. The fun part is the mask. It played double duty of not only being a proper face covering for the parks during the mandates. But it also was served as his eye mask that he wears in the show.
For Hera, I opted for trying to get my look to be a modernized version of her flight suit. The pant is a hiking pant, made to help keep people cool. They, like Hera's, are also cargo pants, which was super helpful in the parks while riding all the different rides.
Paired with a white high neck shirt with a brown tanktop over it, it was to mimic her high collared neck piece with her leather flight vest. A side bag was added to hold onto my wallet and other items during the day. I wanted to make sure that it was 'in universe', even though she does not wear a bag in the series.
For the hair, mimicking the lekku was of the upmost importance. I had seen various ways to do it, but I wanted to go for broke. I purchased a ponytail wig from Epiccosplay, straightened the clips out and situated them on my head. Then I added a pair of aviator goggles since she's a pilot.
