Elizabeth

Lady Comstock Dress from Bioshock Infinite

Why Elizabeth?

Elizabeth is the deuteragonist of BioShock Infinite, Burial at Sea - Episode 1, and the protagonist of Burial at Sea - Episode 2. She is a 19 year old woman who has been imprisoned in the flying city of Columbia since she was an infant and who Booker DeWitt is sent to retrieve and bring to New York City unharmed. She is guarded by Songbird, a monstrous, winged creature who was both her keeper and only friend during childhood. However, she began to hate him as she grew up, seeing him as a warden prohibiting her freedom. Elizabeth has the power to manipulate Tears that exist in the fabric of time.

Bioshock is one of my all time favorite video game series. These games, for me, helped define the medium of video games as an art form within itself. Just the storytelling is impeccable and created some of the best twists and turns in gaming history. For them to create a character like Elizabeth that was so unique and independent for the timeframe the game takes place in was really spectacular. She is capable, intelligent, and more powerful than she will ever know.

How It Was Made

I will be the first to admit that I saw the first trailer to feature Elizabeth and I immediately went into building this costume. This is a rare thing for me to try and complete this costume before the actual game release. But for having the lack of reference, I feel incredibly proud of this look.

Thinking back to the timeframe that the game took place in and the status that her character had in the world. I chose to go with a velet material to mimic the texture from her early game models. The corset in the original trailers, almost had a leather look to it, with no closers. So, in its original incarnation, I created this corset without any proper lacing in the back. (this then changed after the model was updated in another trailer)

My necklace features the official broach from the studio.
