Lyse Hext

From Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

Why Lyse?

Final Fantasy has been a long standing staple in my gaming journey. I had been playing its MMO since the launch of 2.0 (A Realm Reborn) and have grown into an avid player of it's content. When I attended Final Fantasy Fanfest in 2017, the developers shared the first trailer of the, at the time, new expansion: Stormblood. The first character you are introduced to is Lyse, a monk character, practicing her forms upon a giant statue. It took me about three seconds before I leaned over to my boyfriend and said "That's my next project."

First Debuted: Colossalcon 2017

How It Was Made

I wanted to keep the materials light and flowing to match her look from the trailer. Using a stretch bottomweight for the top and front panels. The gold work is a vinyl applique that was originally attached heat n bond, but then carefully stitched into place. A full circle skirt of sheer for the skirt was perfect for creating movement and drape that really emulated her outfit like it was on screen. A white linen was used for the the pants, as her character is from a desert area. I wanted everything that would be appropriate for the environment she was from, as this outfit is a relic of their family and has been around for generations.

For the armor, each piece had beautiful and intricate elements. I opted to go with a craft form base, as it allowed for me to create small details and still be light to move and pose. Smoothing and curving the edges with a dremel, sealing, and then painting, I was able to create some of my favorite armor to date.
