Madeline Hatter
Legacy Day Dress from Ever After High
Why Madeline?
Madeline is bright, energetic, and extremely friendly. Also very optimistic. Generally, she interprets things more positive than they are, the one exception being when people are explicitly arguing. Madeline is also extremely fond of tea and keeps an entire tea set, including her tea buddy and pet Earl Grey, in her hat to be ready for tea time literally wherever she goes. The Wonderlandian magic which manifests in her is how she can do impossible things if she doesn't know they are impossible, she sometimes has visions of other times and other places, she can read people's thoughts as well as being able to hear the narrators, something which her peers don't believe her on.
I watched the Web-isodes of Ever After High on a whim one day while I was bored. And within the first minute of the first episode, when Maddie started arguing with the narrators of the story, I knew she was going to be my quirky little spirit animal of this series. While I give off a very serious vibe when people meet me, I can be just as zany, humorous, and out there as Maddie. And for that, I'm grateful for this amazing girl.

How It Was Made
For Legacy Day Maddie, I knew that sourcing her fabrics was going to be a challenge. The doll is different from the animation. And the animation is different from her box art.
I managed to find some really pretty fabrics that were close and I thought would compliment each other well. The jacket was fun. I had to make a mock up of the coat first, the add the seam allowance for when I cut it into stripes. Then I went with the gold and blue pieces and then basically created the stripe patterning. The skirting were just multiple circle skirts that were over a custom blue pant underneath.
The top hat was also from scratch, with a base out of craft foam. I then covered it in a gold spandex. The belt in the promo art was pink, which I liked better than the blue. So opted for pink with a jeweled belt loop.
The shoes are my favorite part. I bought a base platform heel and covered them with a gold spandex. Then, using craft foam, I created teacups that I primed, painted, and sealed. I then attached them to the heel. Still, to this day, these are my favorite accessories for any costume I have done.
