Princess Kakyuu

from Sailor Moon: Stars

Why Princess Kakyuu?

Princess Kakyuu is the princess of the planet Kinmoku who had fled to Earth after her world was invaded and then destroyed by the possessed Galaxia, former Sailor Guardian of the Milky Way Galaxy. While she only appears in a few episodes of the anime and only slightly more in the manga, she always looked so graceful and was incredibly kind.

Of all the characters in Sailor Moon, Kaykuu was always the one that I thought was so unique. She had a beautiful design and while in the anime her time was short, in the manga she was given a senshi transformation and slightly more development. When I really wanted to make something Sailor Moon related, I finally said that it was time to make this.

How It Was Made

I wanted to make this as comfortable as possible while doing justice to her character. The corset and bloomers were made from a casa collection satin. For the sleeves and the skirting, I opted to go with a crystal organza because I wanted her to have a little bit of sparkle and shimmer. After all, she was a princess, soon to be queen of her home world. So I wanted her to have it have a feeling of stars sparkling.

My favorite part of this look was the wig and headpiece. The base material of the crown is a faux leather. I added a gold trim with some simple crystals for the front. For the hair sticks, I found a beautiful base stick that I added embellishments of hand painted flowers. And then used the same flower as the forehead decoration.

The wig was challenging. Taking a long red wig purchased from Arda Wigs, I split the hair into four long pieces. The two for the front pieces. Then the longer and thicker pieces was braided around pieces of copper wiring. Once it was finished bring braided, I formed it up into the loops and secured it into place that is hidden by the crown itself.
